Having a baby is an extremely joyful time in any woman’s life. Even though pregnancy can be uncomfortable and stressful, the end result makes you forget all the suffering. Unfortunately there are reminders and those reminders are called stretch marks. Some woman don’t develop any, some only have a few and other woman have them everywhere. Stretch marks are not pretty and can make a woman feel less comfortable in her own skin. There are ways to get your body ready for the elastic requirements of pregnancy and to treat it after you have given birth. Using a good pregnancy stretch mark cream correctly and regularly can really help you get your body looking the way you want it to.

Pregnancy stretch marks are generally found on the belly, buttocks, breasts, inner thighs and outer thighs. Having dry skin for the duration of the pregnancy will lead to more severe stretch marks. It is important that you constantly moisten your skin with pregnancy stretch mark cream from the very beginning of your pregnancy to at least one year following birth. Some people think that stretch marks are a genetic disposition, but what is actually genetic is skin type. Dry skin needs more attention.

It is much easier to prevent stretch marks than it is to get rid of them. It is more important to apply the pregnancy stretch mark cream after you shower, at least once mid day, and most definitely before bed. More cream should be used if you have the time and if your skin is dryer than normal. For the bare minimum use at least twice a day. Rub the cream in a circular direction as if you were massaging your skin. Cover all trouble areas and any additional dry skin.

You have to work hard to avoid stretch mark, but it is worth the effort. Don’t plan on taking care of them after the birth. Making stretch marks less visible is by far more difficult than preventing them. Damaged collagen will appear pink and over time it will fade to white. The first year after the development of stretch marks is the only window of time you have to use pregnancy stretch mark cream and after that you will have to look for a more drastic resolution like laser technology.

The more flexible and moist your skin is during pregnancy, the less likely collagen will be torn to form your ever growing body. The most useful pregnancy stretch marks cream will have ingredients like mineral oil, cocoa butter, silk amino acids and/or vitamin E.

There are thousands of women, men and teens who would like to know how to prevent stretch marks. In the first place, stretch marks are scars that appear on the surface of the skin when the skin is stretched to the limit. There are various causes that play a role in determining whether a person will get stretch marks or not. One of these is genetics. Another is hormonal changes. Pregnancy, weight gain and sudden growth of the body cause
the skin to stretch.

The bad news is there is no way for stretch marks to disappear completely. That means they will always be with you once they have shown up. Blame it on the key factors above. What laser surgery and stretch mark lotions do is that, they reduce the visibility of stretch marks to make them less noticeable and less embarassing.

Preventing stretch marks, therefore, is the best thing you should do if you don’t want them. Stretch mark products, as mentioned, can only make scars look faded. However, if you’d like to prevent stretch marks, you might be disappointed to know that it is not guaranteed that you will indeed avoid getting stretch marks since genetics play a role. If one of your family members had stretch marks, chances are huge that you will have them as well.

However, I’ve read other people’s stories on how they’ve successfully prevented stretch marks, despite the fact that they’ve had them before. So, why not give the preventive measure a try and who know, you might end up being stretch mark-free later.

Believe it or not, one of the best things to do how to prevent stretch marks is by changing your diet. They say that the health of skin is greatly affected by what you eat. If you keep eating fresh fruits and vegetables, your skin will be radiant, smooth and glowing.

When it comes to your diet, you will need to eat balanced meals that follow along your own health needs.

We all know that certain vitamins are great for your skin such as vitamin E; however it never seems to occur to most people that you can get it from food and not just lotions and creams.

There are specific vitamins that you should be looking to consume that are directly related to your skin. These vitamins should include vitamin C, E, A and zinc in specific. Remember we use zinc to shield your skin from the sun; why wouldn’t we want consume it as well? So what we have is that there are specific foods that will provide these vitamins. Here is a specific foods list that you can consume to help you in battling stretch marks.

Vitamin A foods include:
1. Liver
2. Carrots
3. Sweet potato
4. Pumpkin
5. Apricots
6. Green leafy vegetables
7. Mango
8. Cantaloupe
9. Tuna

Vitamin C sources are:
1. Oranges
2. Guava
3. Papaya
4. Cantaloupe
5. Kiwi
6. Strawberries
7. Chili peppers
8. Broccoli

Vitamin E sources are:
1. Polyunsaturated oils and seed
2. Sunflower
3. Safflower
4. Canola
5. Corn
6. Almonds
7. Peanut butter
8. Wheat germ
9. Tomato puree
10. Avocados

Zinc-rich sources are:
1. Bananas
2. Raisins
3. Legumes

These are a sample list of foods that can help prevent stretch marks. As mentioned, having a healthy daily diet is one of the best things to do how to prevent stretch marks. Hence, try to incorporate them into your daily diet.

Anyone, men or women who develops stretch marks would like to know, can they be removed? And the fact is, most of the time the answer is no. But there are things you can do to prevent stretch marks (striae) by keeping your weight stable and your skin moisturized. There is a debate between those in the medical community who think that stretch marks laser treatments are more effective than using creams, and vice versa. Ultimately this is something that you, the consumer, will have to decide for yourself.

Stretch marks laser treatment is moderately effective on stretch marks that are pretty new; older stretch marks that have turned to a silver or white color and are somewhat deep do not respond as well to laser treatments. The laser treatments basically work to blur the lines rather than actually remove them. Of course, losing weight and exercise are probably the most effective means of reducing them, but in cases where they are unsightly, then stretch marks laser treatment can be considered.

The use of skin moisturizers and creams to decrease or get rid of stretch marks has not been conclusively proven to be a hundred per cent effective, but it certainly does not hurt. At the very least, use of creams can help to keep the skin moist and prevent them from getting any worse. Some preventative creams have demonstrated modest success in shrinking them, such as retinols, but these must be used carefully and never on pregnant women as they have been shown to cause birth defects.

Probably the best stretch mark cream to use are those with the following ingredients: cocoa butter, Vitamin E oil or shea butter. All of these ingredients have been shown to keep skin moisturized. The use of creams and lotions, while not effective in removing the marks, has been shown to at least slow or reduce them to a certain degree. However, when compared to stretch marks laser treatments, the creams and lotions are probably not as effective in the long run. Ultimately, however, the most effective treatment is the prevention of their occurrence.

Finally, if you feel that your stretch marks are unsightly, then by all means go ahead and have stretch marks laser treatments to at least decrease their appearance.

If stretch marks laser treatment is not an option for you or if you would prefer to naturally reduce your stretch marks try a good cream.
